USA TODAY MileTracker - Privacy Policy

The following policy governs DeskPort Technologies’ ("DeskPort Technologies" or "we") collection and/or use of any information transmitted during your registration and use of the MileTracker application. Please note that this policy ONLY deals with DeskPort Technologies’ collection and use of your information, and does not govern the collection and use of your information by third parties, including USATODAY.com, a division of Gannett Satellite Information Networks, Inc. (“USATODAY.com”), the party that operates the site from which you downloaded MileTracker. We may share with USATODAY.com and other third parties any information you provide, or that is collected, in the course of your using the MileTracker application or visiting any pages that are located on made available in cooperation with USATODAY.com, in accordance with the terms of this privacy policy. The privacy policies of USATODAY.com and other third parties may differ from ours. MileTracker was designed with concern for your privacy and security. The personal loyalty program account data (account numbers, usernames, passwords, and/or PINS (personal identification numbers)) you enter into MileTracker (collectively, your “Profile Data”) is stored in your own personal MileTracker profile, where it is encrypted and stored locally on your computer. It is NEVER maintained by a third-party server.

1. Security of Your Profile Data.

DeskPort Technologies, the developer of MileTracker, has taken steps to ensure that your confidential Profile Data are protected from unauthorized users.

All Profile Data is stored in a profile residing on YOUR computer. At no time does DeskPort Technologies have access to any of your Profile Data residing within the MileTracker profile, nor do we know your usernames, passwords, or PINs (Personal Identification Numbers).

2. Automatic Update Features.

MileTracker automatically communicates with DeskPort Technologies’ servers via the Internet to check for application updates, such as new program additions, bug fixes, patches, and/or new versions. For some updates, such as new executables, we may request your permission, as a specific action may be required on your part. Many simpler updates will be done automatically in the background.

3. Protection From Unauthorized Access.

Profile Data, including but not limited to your frequent travel program information, is never stored on our servers or any other third-party server. All Profile Data remains on your computer. We encourage you to exercise care in protecting your own computer from unauthorized access.

4. Collection and Use of Personal Information.

MileTracker will request a valid e-mail address prior to application download. We do this in order to communicate specific update requests and other information, and to comply with applicable federal law regarding opt-in for communications purposes. DeskPort Technologies may collect and store the email address and any other personally identifiable information that you voluntarily supply while registering for or downloading the MileTracker application or in responding, via e-mail or otherwise, to a communication from DeskPort Technologies, and may use this information to provide you with MileTracker and information about MileTracker. This information may be shared with and may be utilized by USATODAY.com in accordance with its own privacy policy.

We do NOT knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of thirteen in connection with the MileTracker application. We screen users who wish to provide personal information in order to prevent users under the age of thirteen from providing such information.

Except for the information you voluntarily supply while registering for or downloading the MileTracker application or in responding to a communication from DeskPort Technologies or a third party as outlined below, we do not collect any other personally identifiable information. ("Personally identifiable information" is information such as your name, phone number, credit card information, or mailing address --anything that could identify you personally.) In the course of using MileTracker there may be times when additional personally identifiable information is transmitted to one or more of our suppliers (such as in a travel purchase). However, MileTracker will only transmit that data at your request and will not maintain that data on any of our servers.

We also collect and store information that is generated automatically as you register for or download the MileTracker application or use the MileTracker application to navigate through the web. Any ANONYMOUS MileTracker usage information will be utilized to better customize features and /or advertising displayed within the MileTracker application. Additionally, such anonymous aggregate application usage data may be used for promotion of advertising sales or other application planning and management functions and may be shared with and may be utilized by USATODAY.com in accordance with its own privacy policy.

5. Sharing Personal Information With Third Parties.

Acting on certain advertisements displayed within MileTracker may trigger a transaction request on your part. In this instance, you may be requested to provide a credit card to hold or purchase the service. MileTracker provides to a partner only the information necessary to process your transaction based on their requirements. In the event you purchase a service/product we will use the information you supply us only to complete the transaction.
Requesting a frequency program statement via MileTracker requires that we provide the program vendor with the information necessary to obtain your online statement. The source for this information is the MileTracker profile which is stored on your computer (see Section 1 above).
DeskPort Technologies may provide third parties with summaries of site traffic information that do not affect your anonymity, such as the number of visitors to a particular area of the site.
DeskPort Technologies shares with USATODAY.com any information you provide, or that is collected, in the course of your using the MileTracker application or visiting any pages that are located on made available in cooperation with USATODAY.com. You agree that USATODAY.com’s use of your information is governed by the USATODAY.com privacy policy located at: http://privacy.usatoday.com, and not by this privacy policy. In addition, in some cases, USATODAY.com may collect information from you directly; in which cases the privacy policy of USATODAY.com, and not this privacy policy, will apply to USATODAY.com’s use of this information. You agree that USATODAY.com’s use of your information is governed by the USATODAY.com privacy policy located at: http://privacy.usatoday.com, and not by this privacy policy.

6. Applicability to Other Web sites.

The MileTracker application contains links to other sites, including the USATODAY.com web site. When linking from within MileTracker to other web sites, your use of those sites will be governed by their privacy policies, and not by the DeskPort MileTracker Privacy Policy. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. You should be conscious of the privacy practices of any web site that you visit or that collects personally identifiable information.

7. Changes to Privacy Policy.

Any changes to the DeskPort MileTracker Privacy Policy that may affect the way your proprietary information is used will be clearly posted within this privacy policy. We will also notify you, in advance, by e-mail or via the application updater. You will always have a clearly defined and ongoing ability to opt-out of any such opportunity.
